Procedure, as an instrument of jurisdiction and a means of safeguarding citizens’ rights, has a mission that goes far beyond its operational role within the administration of justice, although we recognize the great importance of judicial activity in ensuring the realization of rights. However, procedure also has a democratic and socially inclusive purpose, with the potential to guarantee access to and enjoyment of goods and services, especially those that promote the effective realization of fundamental rights. The developmental capacity of procedure means that, through it, social, political, legal, or economic outcomes can be achieved in ways that foster the attainment of freedoms in their many forms. Through this work, the talented authors, brought together by us, provide an excellent intellectual collection featuring diverse and profound reflections in the field of procedural law, relating them particularly to the Theory of Procedure and Development, created by our honoree, Professor Dr. Antônio Pereira Gaio Júnior.
